From a Well-Being Education to a Sustainable Future
SISS believes that happiness in education goes hand in hand with sustainability, offering students the opportunity to contribute to creating a brighter future, starting with small actions.
Guided by our motto of nurturing a generation of happy and healthy students, SISS always provides opportunities for students to spread happiness to the community by creating positive values and gradually contributing to a sustainable future.
Sustainability is one of the core aspects integrated into the New South Wales curriculum in particular and the Australian curriculum in general.
At SISS, sustainability is delivered through a roadmap with methods suitable for students, based on the foundation of a happiness-nurturing education program.
The process of students learning, absorbing, and developing their thinking on sustainability can be summarized in three steps:
- Recognizing the elements that foster a healthy environment to maintain a long-lasting, happy, and healthy life for both the ecosystem and society.
- Understanding and respecting individual uniqueness, while learning to harmonize diverse perspectives to achieve shared sustainable benefits.
- Developing ideas and taking action to create positive values for a sustainable future.
SISS leverages its strengths in advanced educational programs to help students engage with abstract issues in a clear and relatable manner.
In addition to absorbing knowledge, students practice applying theories to real-life situations through a range of after-school activities and events, including:
- Expressing their opinions and calling on others to join efforts for worthy goals through Clubs, TEDx SISS Youth, speeches, etc.
- Conveying creative ideas or humanitarian messages through artworks and technological inventions.
- Responding to humanitarian initiatives through events like Peace Day, No Backpack Day, Well-being Day, and Earth Week.
- Participating in activities such as tree planting, trash collection, clean-ups, environmental protection, and valuable Field Trips.
- Contributing to the community project “Yen Bai, For a Brighter Tomorrow” and charitable activities to help those in need.
Through these activities, students gradually realize that sustainability is not an abstract concept but can be achieved through small actions.
This process enables students to connect their personal and collective happiness to the long-term benefits of the community and society. Gradually, they will grow into compassionate individuals, shaping a positive future.
This aligns with one of SISS’s training goals, inspired by UNESCO’s vision of sustainable education, which emphasizes a future-oriented approach focused on environmental protection and creating a more balanced world in terms of both ecology and society through meaningful actions.
