SISS Ensures the Quality of Teaching through a Series of Professional Development Training Weeks for Teachers

August 14, 2023

Improving the quality of teaching and pedagogical skills for teachers is considered one of the focuses of SISS to ensure the best academic quality for students. Therefore, SISS pays great attention to annual activities such as Professional Development (PD) Training Week. During the past two weeks from August 1 to August 11, the Sydney International School System organized a series of PD Weeks with advanced and focused training activities for teachers before the academic year 2023 – 2024.

Participating in activities with a willingness to learn and upgrade their expertise, they actively grasped development strategies, policies, outstanding events, key projects and goals in the new academic year. At the same time, the PD Week series also emphazies the highlights of the New South Wales curriculum such as focusing on the field of digital technology, supporting students’ personal development, and protecting students’ mental health and create conditions for them to be more creative.

Integrating technology in teaching to match the educational orientation associated with digital technology of New South Wales, SISS also trains teachers to use modern software and applications, thereby optimizing the process of transmitting information and communicating with parents and students.

Two other topics in the PD Week series that are equally outstanding are protecting children’s rights and students’ mental health in the school environment. Not only are teachers raised in awareness and understanding of their role in protecting students, they also boldly give comments and suggestions to help students overcome psychological problems and situations of child rights abuse.

Besides, teachers are also trained in teaching methods that will be applied in the academic year 2023 – 2024 such as Count Me in Too, Multisensory Structure Language, Talk 4 Writing. The most special is the series of online training activities using The Walker Learning method with experienced educational experts.

Through the PD Week series, SISS hopes that the entire teaching staff will be prepared in the most thorough way to welcome the academic year 2023 – 2024 and gradually help students learn and develop to become thoughtful, proactive learners and responsible digital citizens.
